The New Bright Holiday Express Animated Train Set #384 is a complete set that includes lights, music, and various rolling stock. Made by New Bright Industrial Co., Ltd, this set features plastic construction and operates on an AC power type. The scale is 1:22.5 and it is designed for a G gauge track. With its colorful multi-color design and analog control system, this train set is sure to bring joy to children and collectors alike during the holiday season. It's for ages 10 and up.
This train set, No. 384, was manufactured by New Bright Industrial Co., LTD in January 2004 and is no longer made. Numerous used sets, most with some defective components, can be found on the internet. I bought it New later in 2004 with thoughts of using it with grandchildren which did not come to fruition.
The New Bright No. 384, Ready-to-run, Holiday Express Animated Train Set (shown in the largest box in the accompanying pictures) includes the following:
• A festive Santa’s Fe 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive, painted in tan, red, and green and decorated with snow bells, and ribbons, with an elf ringing the bell and old St. Nick waving to all the good boys and girls on his route.
• A Tree Top Wood Tender Car, featuring simulated wood textures, piles of toys, and an attractive green over tan paint job with a hard-working elf passing logs to the boiler, while his partner hides in the toolbox.
• A Candy Dancer Car, a green and candy-cane covered car with two elves working a center-mounted pump while the roof top decorations twirl.
• A Toy Shop Caboose in red over green and carrying present sorting elves.
• A Multi-Function Controller with 14 clearly labeled buttons that provide complete control over the train including turning the unit off and on, controlling speed and direction of the train, adjusting the volume of the sounds, and activating a variety of Christmas sounds including constant chugging (easily shut-off with the mute button) and individual controls so you can hear Santa's Ho, Ho, Ho, or All Aboard, then blow the whistle and ring the bell as the train pulls out.
• A 120V Transformer.
• A Track Power Clip.
• Sixteen Pieces of Track (4 Straight and 12 Curved).
• A Set of Instructions.
• Packaged in an attractive two-piece box with all pieces included tucked safely inside large styrofoam trays.
Also included are five additional cars made as add-ons to the basic train set and additional track.
1. Santa’s Mailbox Car (New Bright No. 384-1) with working spotlight, animated rocking Santa, lighted potbelly stove, lighted clock face, animated letter-stamping elf, and two sections of straight track.
2. Water Tanker Skating Car (New Bright No. 384-2) with working spotlight, animated ice skating elf, spinning elf, lighted pond, animated water pumping elf, lighted gift box, and two sections of straight track.
3. Bakery Car (New Bright No. 384-3) with working spotlight, Mrs. Claus baking animation, animated bellows pumping elf, lighted oven, and two sections of straight track.
4. Log Mill Car (New Bright No. 384-4) with lighted lantern, animated chopping elf, lighted mill loft, animated log and trap door, and two sections of straight track.
5. Passenger Car (New Bright No. 384-5) with interior lights, flashing roof lights, two sections of straight track.
6. Track (New Bright No. 384ST-P9) – Nine sections of straight track.
Total Track included: 23 sections of Straight track and 12 sections of Curved track—more than enough for a variety of layouts and spares.
This Holiday Express Animated Train Set from New Bright Industries becomes an animated winter wonderland with multiple moving figures and numerous working lights and provides a nearly outrageous amount of Christmas joy either as a unique and rare collector’s item and/or an everlasting child’s memory.
